Mary Shelley: Frankenstein - book (sort of) review

Quite incredible how an 18 year old wrote this masterpiece. The prose is marvellous, which I didn't expect to be honest, and the plot has more layers to it than the pop-culture depiction as "mad scientist gone wrong". It is, first and foremost, about longing for love and friendship; but also about the perils of avoiding responsibility for your own actions, hypocrisy, dealing with tragedy, our anger at a seemingly absent and careless God and how our fascination for the natural world is highly dependent on our state of mind.

Rating: 5/5

Edit (2026): I should definitely write a proper review, this book deserves it. Some day I will… probably.
